Spring is almost here and for gardeners it is an exciting time — anxious to get outside to start the season and set in motion their ideas nurtured during the cold snowy days of winter. To a gardener, good compost is like gold. With this in mind, the Redding Garden Club has invited Colleen Plimpton to be its guest speaker on Monday, March 15, at the Redding Community Center.
Her lecture, “The Bins and Outs of Composting, will be an interactive informative look at the whys, wheres and whats of composting. Ms. Plimpton will discuss the life cycle of a compost pile as well as introduce different materials not usually considered for composting. Her presentation will be followed by a Q & A session.
Ms. Plimpton is an author, instructor and coach. She has appeared on PBS and Good Morning America. She currently writes the weekly gardening column for The News-Times and teaches gardening at the New York Botanical Garden and through her own hometown’s Continuing Education Program. Her award-winning garden in Bethel has been on tours and serves as a living classroom where she teaches composting, composition and the how to’s of gardening.
The Redding Garden Club meets monthly and welcomes guests and potential new members to attend ($5 fee). Meetings begin at 11:30 a.m. with a light lunch and business meeting, followed by a specific program at 1.
Call 203-268-3577 if you have questions or need further information, or visit the club’s Web: reddinggardenclub.org.
