Incorporated in 1965, the Redding Land Trust is marking its 45th anniversary in 2010, celebrating more than four decades of land saving, trail blazing and successfully advocating for preservation of Redding’s unique gifts of meadows, woodlands and watercourses.
Letters of invitation to the land trust’s annual meeting on Sunday, March 28, at 3 p.m. at Highstead Arboretum have been sent to every household in Redding. This year, celebrations will include a special tribute to a legendary leader of Redding conservation and an inspiration to all who know her — Joan Deming Ensor.
David Sutherland from the Connecticut Land Conservation Council, whose mission is to advocate for land preservation, stewardship and funding, will talk about the council’s work in Hartford and throughout the state to help communities preserve their natural resources.
Mr. Sutherland’s presentation will be preceded by a brief business meeting where President Mary Anne Guitar will ask for approval of three changes to the trust’s by-laws and review its many accomplishments over the past year.
After the program, land trust supporters will have an opportunity to enjoy wine and cheese and to socialize with friends and neighbors.
Along with an invitation to come to the March 28 meeting, the letter invites everyone to join or to renew one’s membership in the Redding Land Trust and to give vital support to the trust’s ongoing initiatives to save open space.
“You are our partners in preservation... we couldn’t succeed without you,” Ms. Guitar said in her letter to members.
