Victor DeMasi, a local lepidopterist, will conduct a butterfly walk on Saturday, July 31. This field walk will be in one of the state’s outstanding meadows to observe butterflies on the wing and to present a few specimens, which will later be released unharmed, for close examination. Residents can park in the field across from Mr. DeMasi’s driveway at 10 Simpaug Turnpike at 10 a.m. Long pants and sturdy shoes and tick protection are advised. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 1.
Mr. DeMasi is a research associate at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. He and his wife Roanna have studied butterflies for the last 40 years in Connecticut and far away places such as the Amazon basin and Ethiopia.
