An artist’s discussion on the exhibition, Songbirds of the Eastern United States, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Highstead at 127 Lonetown Road. The event is open to the public.
Afterwards, Robert Askins, Ph. D., professor of biology at Connecticut College, will present information on the history, biology and conservation of forest birds in New England.
Times of the day’s events are:
• 10:30 to noon: artists from the guild will discuss their work on display at the Highstead Barn and share the experiences that inspired their work. The art exhibit will be open for viewing at Highstead on weekdays from Sept. 11 through Oct. 29 from 9 to 4.
• noon to 1: light refreshments will be served and guests are welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy our self-guided interpretive trail.
• at 1: Dr. Askins will present information on the ecology of migratory songbirds and the goal of sustaining their populations. Dr. Askins teaches courses on ornithology, animal behavior, ecology and environmental studies at Connecticut College and is internationally recognized for his research of the ecology of migratory birds and the impact of forest fragmentation on their populations.
