Guffey: Finance board

Before I became involved in town government last year, both I and my wife were confused who was who and what was what in Redding. We moved to Redding from Westchester in the summer of 2004, when the prospects for the Georgetown project were soaring. In contrast, the reconstruction of Barlow High School was then a caustic list of claims about contractor fraud, theft of supplies, and incompetent project management by the Region 9 Board of Education. We didn’t really want to know the details then. We were trying to “move in” to a lovely town without gas stations and franchise stores.

We felt left out of some things, as a consequence, but the peace of the place stunned us. To us, the charges back and forth were like shouts and murmurs under a blanket.

Consider whether any given opinion letter in this newspaper is written about alleged events in the past or whether it’s about possibilities for the future. My opponent is focused on the past. I am new to the process and offer you a better future.

It’s easy to sneer and criticize in generalities. As I’ve called him out before, let Mr. Bonfanti be specific. What exactly does he intend to do to if elected? How will that be better than the current BOF chaired by Bill Alvarez?

Mr. Guffey is a Republican.
