Miller: Redding school board

For those who missed the Board of Education debate last Thursday, I urge you to take the opportunity to view it. I think you’ll find a clear difference between the incumbents and the challenger on a host of issues and qualifications.

The debate made clear that if Mr. D’Agostino is elected, the educational quality of our schools would be at risk. Mr. D’Agostino repeatedly criticized the board for proposing budgets that in his view were too large. Alarmingly, he also stated that in his view, class sizes are too small. This, despite the fact that class sizes are average for our DRG and state.

We can’t risk increased class sizes and the devastating effect on educational quality that would come from that. We can’t risk drastic budget cuts that would necessarily lead to cuts in programs or staff.

Instead, I respectfully ask for your vote to preserve our schools.

Mr. Miller is a Democrat.
