Voters will be going to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3, to elect town officials. There are three contested races — for the town treasurer, Board of Finance and Redding Board of Education.

 

Hours

Polling hours are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Redding Community Center.

Who may vote

People who are registered voters. The last day to register and still be eligible to vote in the Nov. 3 election has passed. However, people who turn 18, become U.S. citizens or have recently moved to town may still register and vote in the election if they do so by noon on Nov. 2 at town hall. Eighteen-year-olds and new citizens must have proof that their rights have matured and new residents must have a lease or deed indicating the date they became residents.

Identification

Under state law, a voter must present identification at the polls. Acceptable identification is a driver’s license or anything with a person’s name on it and a picture, address or signature. People without identification may sign an affidavit declaring under penalty of false statement who they are.

Absentee ballots

Absentee ballots may be used by those who will be out of town during voting hours on Nov. 3, who are ill, or who meet certain other requirements. They are available in Town Clerk Michele Grande’s office at town hall.

Applications for absentee ballots may be picked up at the town clerk’s office Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 to 5:30 and Thursday from 8:30 to 6.

Applications may be mailed upon request, or may be downloaded from the town’s Web site, www.townofreddingct.org.

People may vote by absentee ballot in person up to 5:30 on Monday, Nov. 2, in the town clerk’s office.

There will be special absentee voting hours on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 to 11 in the town clerk’s office.

Redding Sports

The top-seeded Joel Barlow High boys varsity lacrosse team defeated fourth-seeded New Fairfield 14-12 in the South-West Conference semifinals on Wednesday.

Barlow, which fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter, bounced back and led 9-6 going into halftime.
