I am one of the judges in the Republican primary Aug. 10 to determine the candidate for the newly created position of regional probate judge. Experience, knowledge and dedication count in choosing the right person.
Prior to practicing law, I worked in the private sector for 10 years for an international corporation while attending UConn at night to receive my MBA. There I learned and experienced management techniques and teamwork.
I then attended law school at night while working full time, being married and raising two of my three wonderful children. It was also there that I excelled in the knowledge of probate law and was named one of the first editors of the newly created Quinnipiac Probate Law Journal.
After graduation in 1985, I went into the full-time practice of law and have been self-employed for more than 23 years. I was elected the Bethel judge in 1991. I have also served as town counsel and assistant town counsel to the Town of Bethel and as a special public defender in family and criminal matters. In my private practice and in my capacity as probate judge, I have handled thousands of cases. My experience includes pro bono work, court trial, jury trial, successfully arguing before the Connecticut Appellate Court and having one of my probate cases being appealed and upheld by the Connecticut Supreme Court. I have also participated in many civic organizations and charities over the years. I enjoy having dedicated myself to serving the probate court and my community.
In short, I have a solid background in probate experience, probate knowledge and dedication to my job as the Bethel judge of probate. Should I be chosen as the Republican candidate and win the election, I would bring all of these qualities and my enthusiasm to the regional probate court.
Judge O’Grady is one of three Republicans seeking the party’s nomination to run for the judge of probate post for the new probate district that includes Redding, Ridgefield, Bethel and Newtown.
