Annual report outlines Barlow students’ college acceptances

Joel Barlow High School seniors continue to make the grade when it comes to earning college acceptance.

That was according to the annual report presented by high school Principal Tom McMorran to the Region 9 Board of Education last Tuesday. Of the 1,555 applications submitted by high school seniors this past year, there were 800 acceptances — 24% of which were from the “most competitive” colleges and universities.

Mr. McMorran said that 53% of the acceptances were from highly competitive schools, while 63% were from very competitive facilities.

The annual report, which is available on the school district’s Web site, also provides details on course grades for grades 9-12 in spring 2009 as well as CAPT and SAT scoring averages.

For the spring 2009 grades, 36.51% of students in grades 9 through 12 scored As; 35.77% scored Bs; and 17.88% scored Cs.
