Martin: Finance board

I’m Steve Martin and I am running for the Board of Finance as a candidate unaffiliated with any party. If you dislike politics as much as I, you’re probably looking forward to the election being over. Soon we can take down the yards signs, The Pilot will be a manageable size, and we can get back to discussing things that make Redding a great place to live, like how many cows belong on a farm.

I was warned that this Pilot edition will be a candidate’s last chance to fire off remarks about opponents. And since they’ll have no chance to respond, hit them hard, because they’ll be doing the same to me. I guess that’s one way to go.

First, I want to say good luck to my opponents. May the best people for the 3 BOF seats win.

Second, I would like to urge voters to get out and vote on Nov. 3. We’ve had too few people leading the way, and we have been misled. Please be part of the solution. Our town has serious financial problems. We need people to be involved.

Lastly, I hope you will vote to allow me serve on the board. If you plan to, my name is kind of hiding at the very bottom of the ballot. I suppose that makes me the underdog. I’m OK with that. I hope you won’t mind having a board member who doesn’t have a political agenda, just one that leads to financial health.

Mr. Martin is unaffiliated.

Redding Sports

A familiar foe awaited the Joel Barlow High hockey team in the first round of the state Division III tournament.

For the third time this season the Falcons faced South-West Conference rival Newtown when they took the ice at the Danbury Arena on Monday. Each team had one win against the other so far.
