Choosing the right defensive approach was key to the Joel Barlow High girls basketball team’s performance in its game at Bunnell.
The Falcons had to decide whether to stop their opponent under the basket or along the perimeter. They decided on the former.
Such a move paid off as they held the Bulldogs to under 50 points in a 60-43 win last Friday, Feb. 3.

The opportunity to set the tone for the game escaped the Joel Barlow High boys varsity basketball team when it visited New Milford last week.

“We were a step slow, a little flat,” said Barlow head coach Seth Babikian “We missed some easy baskets early.”
Yet the Falcons, who trailed just 13-12 at the end of the first quarter, stayed in contention right up until late in the game.Friday, 03 February 2012 11:05

A specific defensive strategy proved to be quite effective for the Joel Barlow High boys varsity basketball team when it hosted New Fairfield.
Knowing its opponent did not have many offensive threats, the Falcons opted to concentrate on stopping one player in particular. The Rebels could not respond sufficiently, giving the Falcons a key 52-40 win on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The Falcons held New Fairfield’s Anthony Cammerota to under six shots the entire game. Although he did score 13 points, most came from the foul line.
