A one-goal lead was not enough for the Joel Barlow High girls soccer team when it hosted Newtown.

Despite having a 1-0 advantage, the Falcons would have to step up a bit if they were to hold off their opponents last Monday, Oct. 19. They did not respond in time as the Nighthawks kept battling, eventually tying the score and later going ahead to beat the Falcons 2-1, ending their nine-game winning streak.

Once the Joel Barlow High field hockey team got its offense going there was little Weston could do to stop it last week.

The Falcons found the recipe for scoring in a big way on Friday, Oct. 16. The entire midfield and forward lines worked together to complete well-timed passing patterns as the hosts demolished Weston in a lopsided 5-0 win.

Not playing at its usual pace would have its consequences for the Joel Barlow High girls volleyball team in its match at Weston.

The Falcons were not quick to react last Friday, Oct. 16, as Weston’s hits frequently found holes on the former’s side of the court. The host Trojans handled what the Falcons dished out for a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-21) win.

It was only the second loss of the season for Barlow and the first by a sweep.

“We just didn’t have that fight,” said Barlow head coach Steve Antal, noting his team is usually quicker on the court. “Weston had more energy.”

Between its opponent’s speed and its depth in a number of events, the Joel Barlow High girls swim team had a hard time trying to catch Pomperaug last week.

The Falcons managed to keep pace with the Panthers after the first few events. After a while the latter points were harder to come by as the hosts fell behind in 99-83 loss at the Newtown High pool.
