Voters approve $127-million budget that lowers taxes

Though turnout was low, those who voted Tuesday roundly approved the $127-million town and school spending plan that decreases taxes by a just over 1% in 2012-13 thanks to a multi-million dollar flub by Connecticut Light and Power.

Some 2,018 voters went to the polls Tuesday, and 42 cast absentee ballots.

Spending increases about 1.9% from the current $124 million budget, but $3.2 million of a $4.3 million refund from the utility for eight years of overcharging will be pumped into the budget as non-tax revenue to offset the increase.
