Ridgefield teen benefits from Make-A-Wish

At Make-A-Wish Foundation’s annual Celebrating Wishes Ball tonight at Greenwich Country Club, attendees will be able to get to know this year’s “Wish Child,” 17-year-old "Matthew" from Ridgefield.

Each year, one child who has received a wish from the foundation is chosen to represent Make-A-Wish as a real-life example of its mission in action. Matthew, a big sports fan, wanted to meet the Tennessee Titans Football Team. He and his family were flown to Tennessee to see a game and meet the team.

The money raised from the ball supports the foundation in its effort to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

“My Make-A-Wish experience was amazing. It didn’t only make me happy and excited, but it made me feel something I hadn’t felt in a while, special,” Matthew said. “All the people I encountered during my trip were extremely kind and sincere. The people who helped make my wish possible were so caring and wanted me to have the best wish I could. They certainly did. My wish made me feel like I was on top of the world and nobody could take me down.”

Since it was founded, the Connecticut chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 1,750 wishes.
