The Ridgefield High girls swim team finished eighth at the Class LL state championships with 253 points.
The Tigers were led by Taylor Byerly, who placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.71) and fourth in the 100 butterfly (58.59).
Byerly was the only Ridgefield swimmer to qualify for championship heats (top eight swimmers in each event at trials).

Dreams of a first state title will have to wait at least another year.
Third-seed Westhill scored the go-ahead goal with seven minutes to play and hung on to defeat second-seed Ridgefield, 2-1, in a Class LL state semifinal girls soccer game Wednesday night in Norwalk.
The Tigers, who beat Westhill, 1-0, during the regular season, end the year with an 18-2-2 record.

The Ridgefield High School football team headed into last Friday’s game with more than a little luck on its side.
The Tigers hadn’t lost to neighboring Wilton in 14 years, and the reeling Warriors were 2-6 and decimated by injuries.
Form prevailed on another windy, rainy evening as Ridgefield ran its record to 8-1 with a methodical 31-0 pounding of the host Warriors.

In its state tournament opener against South Windsor, the Ridgefield High girls soccer team allowed a goal in the first 40 seconds before recovering for a 3-1 victory.
In the quarterfinals against Bristol Central two days later, it was Ridgefield that scored within the first 30 seconds.
The role reversal ended there.

All good things must come to an end.
The Ridgefield High girls volleyball team was reminded of that life lesson in the state quarterfinals.
After a 3-0 win over Mercy in the second round of the Class LL tournament, the seventh-seeded Tigers fell to second-seed Fairfield Ludlowe, 3-1, in a quarterfinal match Saturday in Fairfield.

A heavy rain that began just before the start of last Saturday’s New England girls cross country championships quickly turned stretches of the course to mud.
Not that Katie Howley minded.
“It was kind of fun to run in the rain and the mud,” said Howley, a senior at Ridgefield High. “I actually enjoyed it.”

Ridgefield High field hockey coach Kate Culbreth said her team was up against two opponents in last week’s Class L state tournament: Farmington and grass.
The Tigers struggled against both.
Playing on a grass surface for the first time this season, Ridgefield fell to host Farmington, 3-1, in a first-round game last Thursday.

The Ridgefield High girls soccer team resumes pursuit of its first state title when it plays FCIAC rival Westhill in a Class LL semifinal on Wednesday night at Norwalk High at 5:30.
Ridgefield is seeded second and Westhill third in the state tournament.
The winner will meet either top-seed Glastonbury or 13th-seed Fairfield Ludlowe for the Class LL championship on either Friday or Saturday at a site and time to be determined.Monday, 16 November 2009 12:31
The Ridgefield High football team moved up a spot in the Class LL state playoff point rankings following last weekend's results.
The Tigers are now sixth in Class LL with 1,040 points.
The top-four teams in each division at the end of the regular season advance to the state playoffs.

The Ridgefield High girls cross country team ended its season by finishing 19th at the New England championships on Saturday at Wickham Park.
The Tigers had 419 points, three more than 18th place Pinkerton Academy of New Hampshire.
La Salle, R.I., was first with 133 points. Barrington, R.I., was a distant second with 184 points.Page 1 of 5
