Hazmat team on scene in Derby

DERBY — Derby’s hazmat team, as well as firefighters and police, have been on scene since about noon Saturday at 125 Water Street, at the Derby Police Department, for a HazMat incident.

Someone dropped off a bag containing a suspicious substance, said Derby Fire Chief Bill Nicoletti, and HazMat personnel are trying to determine what the substance is.

Streets have been closed off in the area of Water and Caroline Streets, and the Home Depot parking lot entrance is being used as a staging area.
