Ansonia High needed a second-half comeback to get by North Branford on Monday night, advancing to the second round of the Class S state tournament.

The ninth-seeded Chargers turned the ball over 10 times in the first period and quickly fell behind 24th-seeded North Branford by a 17-9 margin.

Whatever head coach Bill LaRovera told them at halftime, it was heard loud and clear as the Chargers came out and blew the Thunderbirds right off the court with a 25-9 third-period blast.

That carried Ansonia to a 71-64 win they wasn’t as close as it looked.
