As Election Day approaches, it’s time to put the popularity contests aside and look at the quality and experience of the candidates.
Dan Gilbert has a proven record. He has demonstrated tenacity and inquisitiveness throughout his tenure. He is known for his persistence and his fiscally sound views. His focus is Weston! All of his decisions are based on what is good for Weston and its residents. He cares not about the “politics” beyond that which affects Weston. He is well equipped to lead the town as our next first selectman.
Dennis Tracey is a true find! If you have not taken a good long look at this gentleman you have missed something special. As a Republican, he is as non-political as they come. His one and only focus is doing what is right. He does not hesitate to take the high road and will never be anyone’s mouthpiece. His work on Lachat has been exemplary, not to mention thoughtful and creative. He approaches everything this way. Republicans and Democrats alike are excited at the prospect of having Dennis as a selectman.
Michael Carter and Jerry Sargent are serving the town well as Board of Finance members. They consistently exhibit forward thinking coupled with fiscal restraint. They will continue to represent all citizens of Weston, insuring that our tax dollars are being well spent.
The much maligned David Finkel saved the town better than $160,000 over a three-year period, demonstrating his qualifications as an ideal candidate for Board of Finance. The ethical issue, which is nothing more than negative politics, is now moot. David has pledged to sever all financial ties with the town, if elected, and obtain the blessing of the Board of Ethics. His willingness to give up payment from the town for a job well done in order to serve the town without compensation is a model of exemplary citizenship. Don’t let politics interfere with talent.
Jess DiPasquale and Bill Brady are currently serving on the Police Commission. Just ask current members of the commission, and they will extol the sensibility and intelligence both men display. Once again, do not fall victim to politics! Jess and Bill are being challenged, not because they are not serving the town well, but because the Republicans hold a majority on the commission. Are we really willing to vote them off only for political reasons?
The final contested race is Planning & Zoning. Don Saltzman and Britta Lerner are incumbents with stellar track records both on the commission and in their other town endeavors. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Pierre Ratté, with a degree in planning, will bring a level of expertise to the commission not seen for many years.
The entire Republican ticket has been hand picked and well vetted. No one is running just to fill a seat. Each and every candidate has expertise and/or experience for the job sought.
And, most importantly, each candidate wants to “Keep Weston, Weston.” THEY DESERVE TO SERVE.
