Hurlbutt Elementary School invites all Weston families to the opening day of the Mother Nature Book Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Family Fun Day is open to all ages. There will be new books and new activities.
The day begins at 9 with READ, READ, READ and BUY. All the newest books will be available for elementary school ages, as well as family books representing nature and the world around us.Activities begin at 10:30 with a visit from Weston’s own Magic Genie. At 11, Nancy Krulik, author of the Katie Kazoo series, will sign books and read to everyone.
There will be a karate workout from noon to 1, with Sensei Doug DeBarger. All ages are welcome. Then dance into the afternoon with the Conservatory of Dance, which will be teaching a hip hop class for girls and boys.
“Get crafty” with Susan Jackson of Paint, Draw and More! from 2 to 3. The first 20 kids ages six and up will be making a special craft. Fall family crafts will also be available all afternoon for any age.
There will be a creative movement class with Michelle Sperry from 2:15 to 3.
From 3 to 4, local author Hans Wilhelm, author of I Love School, which features Hurlbutt, and creator of Jolantha the Pig, will be on hand to read his newest book. The first 50 kids to show up will receive a signed copy. At 4, wind down with family yoga time with Blackbird Yoga.
Moms and Dads
“Muffins for Moms” is Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Peruse the book fair selections and enjoy coffee and muffins after the kids get off to school.
On Friday, Nov. 6, from 7 to 8 a.m., “Donuts for Dads” returns, offering kids the opportunity to bring their fathers to shop and enjoy coffee, juice and donuts at the fair before the school day begins.
“We are so pleased to have the support of the community for this year’s book fair,” said Jaime LaLonde, Hurlbutt PTO book fair co-chairman. “The book fair is a wonderful place to spend time with your children and support the school.”
