Teen abuse tied to technology: Weston task force and others tackle dating violence

Members of the Weston Teen Task Force Against Dating Violence will be among the area teens recognized for their work on teen dating violence prevention at an event focused on the issue of teen and ’tween technological abuse.

The event, “Hit Me on My Cell: It’s Time to Talk,” will also feature Westonites John Seigenthaler as moderator, and Weston Police Sergeant Matt Brodacki as a panelist. Sgt. Brodacki’s presentation will include an interactive demonstration using Facebook and MySpace.

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is a featured speaker, along with Rachelle Kucera-Mehra, the executive director of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, and Tony Pavia, the principal of New Canaan High School.

The Weston Teen Task Force is a group of Weston High School students who volunteer their time to raise awareness and promote education on teen dating abuse issues among their peers. They work hand-in-hand with the Weston Domestic Violence Task Force, a community grass-roots group dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and relationship abuse in the community.

The Weston Domestic Violence Task Force is a co-sponsor of the Dec. 3 program, along with PeaceWorks, the educational project of DVCC, and the task forces from Darien, New Canaan, Wilton and Westport.

The event is free and open to the public. It takes place Thursday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. at Saxe Middle School, New Canaan. For more information, contact New Canaan Human Services at 203-594-3076 or visit www.WestonDomesticViolenceTaskForce.org.
