In one respect the Weston High girls soccer team can breathe a little easier when it plays its last game of the regular season this week.
The Trojans do not have to worry about having to win it to qualify for the South-West Conference playoffs. That was a matter for their game on Monday against Bunnell.
Both teams needed the win to clinch the eighth and final playoff spot. Although it was an evenly matched affair, the Trojans’ lone goal turned out to be the difference as they held on for a 1-0 win in Stratford.

The final home meet of the regular season was harder than expected for the Weston High girls swim team.
Hosting Masuk last Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Trojans took first place in all but two events but the Panthers kept things close by claiming other spots in a number of events. The Trojans built up their lead in the last few events for a 104-84 win on Senior Night.

Weston High boys cross country coach Marty Ogden could not help but wonder after the South-West Conference finals last week.
By taking third overall with a score of 95, the Trojans actually had their highest finish since 2005. Still, he thought if his team practiced differently earlier in the week it could have done even better.

Rain was not the only thing to put a damper on the Weston High football team’s homecoming game.
The Trojans had to play in some wet weather when they hosted Newtown last Saturday, Oct. 24. Although things appeared to go their way in the first half, the tide turned against them in the second as the Nighthawks scored three touchdowns for a 21-17 win.

Fatigue possibly got the better of the Weston High girls cross country team at the South-West Conference finals last week.
The Trojans thought they had enough time to rest up before the race. Evidently they were still feeling the effects on the day of the meet last Thursday, Oct. 22.
While the Trojans were hoping for a slightly higher finish, they were not that far off from what they expected, taking fifth out of 14 teams with a score of 157 at Bethel High.
New Milford was the winner with 68, dethroning eight-time defending champ Newtown, which was runner-up with 84. Pomperaug also posted this score but was third based on the sixth-runner rule.Thursday, 29 October 2009 09:52
With a spot in the South-West Conference playoffs now secure, any win the Weston High varsity volleyball team ads to its record will improve its seeding.
Last week the Trojans only improved their chances with two more victories. They are now 12-2 overall and 10-2 in the league.

As far as its chances to make the state Class M tournament were concerned the Weston High boys soccer team had no margin for error when it hosted Bunnell on Monday.
With only two games left to play in the regular season the Trojans needed to win both of them. Bunnell saw to it otherwise, however.
The Bulldogs capitalized on their opportunities and also shut down the Trojans’ offense as the hosts fell 4-0 to bmiss out on post-season play.
