Nick Gartsu leads Eagles to eighth spot in FCIAC

The Trumbull High boys cross country team placed eighth out of 17 teams at the FCIAC championship meet held at the 3.1 mile course at Waveney Park in New Canaan.

Perennial power Danbury again took the league crown in a closely contested event with a score of 60 points.Darien was second at 65 points, followed by Staples and Ridgefield with 73 points.

The Eagles were led by Nick Gartsu, who finished 40th in the 120-man field with a time of 18:01.

The varsity had its tightest pack of the season with only 35 seconds separating the first five runners.

Pat Fairfield was second for the squad, followed by Bobby Held, Jake Varrone, Nick Laskos and Conor Wynne.

Joe Donlon led the JV team in 33rd place, followed by John Gartsu, Malcolm Connor, Ryan Freeland, Tom Takacs, Andrew Pierson and Mike Moran.

In the freshman race, Jake Cyr was the top Trumbull finisher in 19th place.

Owen Osborne, Kevin Crossley, Jason Nagel and Antonio Gerardi and Phil Drack completed the scoring for the frosh,.

The next Trumbull meet is the Class LL championships at Wickham Park in Manchester on Saturday at 3 p.m.
