Eagles close out win

The Trumbull High football team extended an 8-0 halftime lead with a 13-point third quarter when coach Bob Maffei’s Eagles defeated Danbury High, 21-6, at McDougall Stadium on Oct. 30.

The Eagles (4-2) will host Ridgefield (5-1) on Friday night.

The Tigers are coming off a 42-6 victory over Brien McMahon.

Will Melvin ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Phil Terio returned one of four Eagle interceptions for a score.

Jake Sippel caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mike Romano against the Hatters, who were held out of the end zone until the fourth quarter.

Romano completed 6-of-15 passes for 45 yards, including a 17-yard pass to Terio.

Ian Milne chipped in with a 36-yard completion to Terio, who finished with four receptions good for 62 yards.

Anthony Matera booted a conversion and ran for 28 yards on five carries.

Melvin led the ground game with 80 yards on 11 carries with Romano rushing the ball 14 times for 44 yards.

Matt Hajducky had six solo tackles and assisted on five others to lead the Trumbull defense.

Alex Roque had eight stops, and Milne and Steve Sam five each.

Greg Rottijer and Steve Sam had two quarterback sacks each and Testani had one for 28 yards in total losses.

Melvin, Terio, Milne and Hayducky intercepted passes.

Romano pinned Danbury deep with three kicks inside the 20.
