Library Lines

Fright night

Wilton Library turns into The Haunted Library tomorrow night in such a way that kids won’t know what’s lurking around every corner. From 7 to 8 p.m. kids ages 6-10 will tour inside the library not knowing what will jump out at them from any stack or dark corner. From 9 to 10 p.m., kids 10 years old and up will find out what spine-tingling experiences await them. Registration is required. The fee per child is $5.

Books collected

The library’s book sale organizers will be out in full-force on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 to 3, at the town’s Hazardous Materials Collection Day to rid residents of their gently used books, CDs, and DVDs.

Jazz returns to the Brubeck

The Modern Jazz Quintet performs during the Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room series on Sunday, Nov. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. A donation of $10 per person is suggested. Registration is strongly recommended.

Teens read to kids

Teens and younger children have a wonderful activity in store for them on Election Day when the schools are closed. Teen Read-a-Thon for “Read to Grow” takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 11 to 3 when high school students will be reading to kids ages 3-8 years.

Animals at the library

Representatives of The Beardsley Zoo come to the library next week to talk about Endangered Species. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 1:15 to 2:15 with a repeat program from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., children ages 5 - 12 will see a variety of animals including parrots, iguanas, scorpions, ferrets and more. On Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 2:15 to 2:45 and repeated again from 3 to 3:30, children ages 3-4 years will have an age-appropriate discussion covering the same topics. The programs are free and registration is required.

Wine benefit

Just in time for the upcoming holidays, New Canaan Wine Merchants present a Wine Tasting fundraiser to benefit the library on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library. The fund-raiser will cost $25 per person for entry. To register, visit wiltonlibrary.org and click on the wine bottle on the left hand side of the homepage.

Food Fight

The documentary film, Food Fight, will be shown at the library on Thursday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. The film looks “at how American agricultural policy and food culture developed in the 20th century, and how the California food movement has created a counter-revolution against big agribusiness.” It will be followed by an audience Q&A. No charge. Registration highly encouraged.

Registration and information: wiltonlibrary.org/events or 762-3950.

The library is open on Sundays from 1 to 5. People may now follow the library on Twitter at twitter.com/wiltonlibrary.
