Democratic headquarters opening for area towns

On Friday, Aug. 6, the public is invited to the grand opening of Democratic Headquarters in Ridgefield, which will serve area towns in support of the Aug. 10 state primary election and the Nov. 2 general election. Grand opening festivities will be from 4 to 8. The headquarters will be at 17 Bailey Avenue, next to the Subway sandwich shop.

Free refreshments will be served and candidates will be on hand to meet and talk with voters about their positions on the issues. The following candidates have been invited to attend: Congressman Jim Himes, running for re-election in the 4th Congressional District; John Hartwell, candidate for 26th state Senate District, which includes Wilton; and George Jepsen, candidate for state attorney general.

Sign-up sheets will be available for anyone wishing to volunteer in support of any of the Democratic candidates on the November ballot, including candidates for governor, secretary of the state, and other statewide offices.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Jim Himes’ January tax hikes will take a sizable bite out of middle-income families’ disposable incomes.

Connecticut is among the states that would save the most from extending the tax cuts at $1,903 for the average family. The fourth district of Connecticut will see its average family’s tax burden increased by $2,743.

We can’t afford Jim Himes and, regardless of what he says during a campaign, we can’t trust him to change.

I love that a law passed ten years ago is "Jim Himes' January tax hikes." Please, if you hate Himes so badly that you are ascribing policy to him that was passed eight years before he even ran for office, at the very least, try to label the policies correctly.

Also, the so-called Bush Tax Cuts you are referring to will be extended for earners under 250k for sure under the plan Himes is backing.

From ABC last week: "I do believe that the tax cuts on households making under $250,000 -- which by the way in my district is, it's an affluent district, that's a fair number of people -- those I believe should be extended,” [Himes] said... I am certain that on households making less than $250,000, now is absolutely not the time to raise their taxes."
