Candidate statement: Mary Arbisi — A positive difference

The role of registrar of voters is an important one for the town. In many cases that person is one of the first people a newcomer meets and the first experience a teenager has in politics.

In my 20 years in retail, I have trained people of all ages and served others with the highest level of customer service. I have a high energy level and love people. I could not agree more with the editorial posted last week by Catharine Kempson, president of the Wilton League of Women Voters. As she stated, the process of selecting the candidate for registrar of voters is a partisan one. I received the overwhelming support of the Republican Town Committee during the interview process with a 17-5 vote.

I have been endorsed by our Senator Toni Boucher, Selectwoman Susan Bruschi and Selectman Hal Clark. Ms. Kempson also states that the performance of the job of registrar is decidedly nonpartisan. Again, I agree with her. I would never interject personal politics at Town Hall. I would never solicit fellow workers for signatures on any petitions. I believe that the office should be free of self serving interest and that the duties of the office are to protect the rights of all eligible voters in a nonpartisan manner.

I have funded this campaign myself so it is decidedly grassroots. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to my family, friends and surrounding town registrar offices for their support. I am a citizen who has worked on others’ campaigns for 16 years and want this opportunity to make a positive difference in Wilton.
