Candidate statement: Tina Gardner — 30 years in the community

I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the voters who have supported me so enthusiastically in my campaign to be re-elected Republican registrar of voters. For those who may not know me personally, I invite you to review my experience and qualifications. I’ve been an active member of our community for over 30 years and registrar since 1997.

• Member, Republican Town Committee and elected secretary 1999-2007.

• Board member, Wilton PTA Council, PTA Boards at Miller, Cider Mill, Middlebrook schools.

• Treasurer, Wilton Unit of the Salvation Army since 1998.

• Secretary (elected) Registrar of Voters Association of Connecticut (ROVAC) and instructor for both ROVAC and Secretary of the State’s office (appointed).

• Appointed member, statewide Voting Technology Standards Board 2006.

• Member, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

• Past president, Wilton League of Women Voters.

To learn about the role of the registrar, I recommend the following recent commentaries in The Wilton Bulletin:

• View from Glen Hill, “Who is served by partisanship?” by Stephen Hudspeth, July 1, 2010.

• “The Registrar of Voters Office: why independence matters” by the Wilton League of Women Voters, July 22, 2010.

This office allows me to help all of Wilton’s citizens exercise their right to vote, one of our most cherished rights. I feel a personal obligation to uphold the integrity of our country’s electoral process, to make sure every vote counts, and to assure that every voter has a chance to safely, securely, and privately cast that vote. I will continue to serve you with experience, honesty, and integrity.

My endorsements include Robert Russell and Paul Hannah, former first selectmen, who interacted frequently with me in the registrar’s office.

I am looking forward to your vote for me on Aug. 10 — Republican registrar.
