Voters say 'yes' to package stores, charter

It's not raining, but it's wet in Wilton.

On Tuesday, voters approved allowing package stores in Wilton, according to Tina Gardner, registrar of voters. There were 2,363 "yes" votes and 1,801 "no" votes.

Voters also approved the revised town charter by a vote of 2,750 to 872. The revised charter extends selectmen's terms to four years, while also staggering them. It also modifies procedures in how selectmen's budget cuts, as recommended by the finance board, would ultimately be handled. Furthermore, the revised charter requires the signatures of 2% of the electorate to call a special town meeting.

More information will be available in Thursday's edition of The Bulletin.
