Heyde wins Swimmer of Week honors

Freshman Kelly Heyde of Wilton, a member of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team, earned Capital Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week honors for the week ending Nov. 1.

Heyde registered five individual first-place finishes, including a school-record and NCAA "B" cut performance in the Seahawks' opening week of the season. St. Mary's (2-0, 1-0 CAC) posted a 137-68 victory at Catholic University and a 114-91 triumph over Marymount (Va.) University.
Heyde opened the week with wins in the 200 individual medley (2:13.24), the 500 freestyle (5:22.19) and the 1000 freestyle (10:53.97) as SMCM topped Catholic.

In Saturday's win over Marymount, Heyde broke a school record and posted a provisional national qualifying time in the 200 butterfly (2:07.71), knocking off Rachel Hotchko's old mark of 2:09.65 set at last year's CAC championships.  She added a win in the 200 freestyle (2:00.64) and swam the first leg of the victorious 400 medley relay.
