100 Things to Do
Blooms in the Bronx
Jul 2, 2007

The New York Botanical Garden is a place of inspiration for gardeners in any season. For color it’s hard to beat Caribbean Gardens: Journey to Paradise now on display at the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, but Kiku: The Art of the Japanese Chrysanthemum (Oct. 20-Nov.18) should come close. The Everett Children's Garden includes four outdoor and two indoor galleries (The Texaco Kids Lab and the Bendheim Kids Herbarium) for children of all ages. The Botanical Garden's Benenson Ornamental Conifers, recently restored, are a big attraction as is the traditional Holiday Train Show, opening in late November, with its amazing recreations of New York landmarks, all made with plant-based materials. The garden is open year round Tuesday through Sunday (10 to 5, November to March; 10-6 during the Holiday Show and April-October) and Monday holidays.  Admission to all garden features is $18 for adults, $16 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 2-12 (varies with the main exhibit). Parking is $10.
