Connecticut Trolley Spot
Jul 2, 2007
Like its coastal Connecticut counterpart, the Connecticut Trolley Museum is devoted to preserving the history of these local rail lines that were so prevalent in towns and cities shortly after the turn of the 20th Century. This museum has a collection of antique restored trolley cars in the Visitor Center, where there is also a gift shop. Bring a picnic and be ready to step back in time as the trolley bell rings and the electrically powered cars start to roll. The 3.5-mile round trip on antique trolley cars is included in the cost of admission: $8/adults, $7/seniors, and $5/ages 2-12. Also included is the Connecticut Fire Museum, on site. The museum is open Saturdays, 10-5, and Sundays, 12-5 during May plus Memorial Day, 10-5; then Monday and Wednesday-Saturday, 10-5, and Sunday, 12-5, from June 18 to Labor Day, when it goes back to a weekend schedule. Special events include the Railfan Weekend, June 9-10, Pumpkin Patch Oct. 12-28, and Winterfest, evenings in late November and December.
