100 Things to Do
Center for music, arts

Jul 16, 2007

Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts in Katonah, N.Y., is known for its summer International Music Festival, but that’s only a portion of the cultural treasures to be enjoyed there. There are family music programs in the Diane Moss Education Center and an array of gardens all restored and maintained by the Caramoor Garden Guild. The former home of financier Walter Rosen and his wife, Lucie Bigelow Dodge Rosen, Caramoor features an extraordinary collection of Renaissance, 18th Century and Eastern art. Twenty rooms are open for tours Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 4 (last tour at 3; other times by appointment) through October. This year’s special exhibit is Could They Be da Vinci’s?, highlighting the collection of Renaissance and Baroque bronzes which include two casts of a horse possibly made by da Vinci. The 62nd music festival will open June 23 and close on Aug. 12, with concerts Thursday to Sunday and a new two-year Latin American music initiative, Sonidos Latinos.
