The Railway Museum
Jul 16, 2007
Railroad history buffs don’t have far to go to indulge their interest; they can even get there by train. Or drive up to Danbury, to the restored 1903 railway station on White Street (featured prominently in the Alfred Hitchcock film, Strangers on A Train). The train yards have been transformed by the many volunteers of the Danbury Railway Museum, who now spend their hours restoring rolling stock and keeping the yard and its turntable in perfect running order. Admission is $6 per person, and $4 per child (3-12). The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 10-5, and Sundays 12-5 April through December (in March, Wednesday-Saturday, 10-4, Sunday, 12-4). There are Railyard Local Rides on Saturdays and Sundays, taking visitors through the restored railyard and a number of special events including a visit by
The Little Engine That Could on June 23-24 and June 30-July 1,
Halloween Pumpkin Patch Rides, in October, and
Santa’s Train Rides, in December.
