100 Things to Do
Summer of Garden Visits
Jun 12, 2007

For a gardener, the only thing more satisfying than working on his/her own garden is visiting other people’s gardens. And since gardeners tend to be generous people, the Garden Conservancy annually makes available a guide to gardens that will be open to visitors, on specific days, for the modest admission fee of $5. The program has expanded nationwide since its founding in 1995, with regional directories now available as well as a nationwide guide to all Open Days. The East Directory includes gardens in the Northeast, Midwest and Southeast, with dates that run from April to mid-September and costs $6.95. It’s $20.45 for the national edition. The conservancy works to preserve the best gardens in America with the money raised by Open Days directories and through membership fees, which are $35 for individuals and $50 for families.  Members may buy books of six tickets for Open Days at the discounted price of $15. Its projects include helping to restore gardens in New Orleans damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
