100 Things to Do
Burns Film Center
Jun 15, 2007

The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, N.Y., has become established as the place to see the unusual — this is not the typical multiplex showing blockbusters or blockbuster-wannabes. Here film buffs can see films that don’t make an appearance anywhere else in the ’burbs. The Burns Center, in collaboration with the Film Society of Lincoln Center in Manhattan, presents films that range from independent, documentary and world cinema to children’s films and old-fashioned musicals. Special events include guest speakers. Offering “the best movie theater popcorn around” (with the option of real butter), the lobby refreshment stand also has healthy Peeled Snacks of fruit and nuts, brownies from Greyston Bakery in Yonkers, and a range of interesting teas, both hot and cold. Center memberships start at $65 single ($35/students; $40/seniors) and include $4 off the price of all regular screenings, which are $9. At higher membership levels, there are private screenings and other special events.
