Rockefeller Estate
|
Kykuit (pronounced Kye-cut) is an art-filled estate that was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family and is now a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, maintained by the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Visitors may see Nelson A. Rockefeller’s collection of 20th Century sculptures in the extensive gardens as well as the treasures within the mansion and its subterranean art galleries. The coach barn features horse-drawn vehicles and classic automobiles from the family’s collection. Visits to the estate begin from the Visitors Center at Philipsburg Manor on Route 9 in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; guests are driven from there to Kykuit for a tour. Kykuit is open daily except Tuesday until early November. Tickets may be purchased at the Visitors Center or online at www.hudsonvalley.org. Tour prices range from $21 to $38; there’s a new Family Tour, outdoors only, that’s $15. Children should be 10 or older for other tours. Historic Hudson Valley is in charge of the visitation program.
