Mother Earth Gallery
Digging for gemstones, with success guaranteed, is an activity that children can enjoy at Mother Earth Gallery & Mining Co. in Brookfield. Participants don a miner’s hat with lamp and a bucket, and are turned loose in a re-created mine to dig for gemstones such as amethyst, quartz, pyrite, fossil shark teeth, arrowheads and more, all of which can be kept, along with their bucket. A fluorescent mine that glows with green, red, orange and blue specimens is also available for collectors. Suggested age is five and older for individual miners. Birthday parties, school groups, scouts, and camps are invited for special programs for ages six and older. During birthday parties, children play the game of “Rocko,” watch a 12-minute video, Mining Around the World, and enjoy a “Globe” cake and juice. The gallery offers hundreds of crystals, minerals, shells, butterflies, insects, gemstone jewelry, nature-related toys and more. Hours are Monday and Wednesday-Saturday, 10-6; Sunday, 12-5.
