Kids Fishing Spots
Fishing season has opened, bringing joy to anglers who’ve been waiting for a chance to get back to their favorite spot. If you’re 16 or older, a license is required but for kids, it’s free and there are even locations designated as Children’s Fishing Areas. These are streams and ponds restricted to angling by children under 16 years of age, and they’re marked with posters. There is a trout stream for kids in Shelton, Indian Hole Brook, from the falls in Indian Wells State Park downstream to the railroad bridge. Among the western Connecticut ponds designated for children are the Helen Keller School Pond in Easton, the Gould Manor Pond in Fairfield, Mirror Lake (Hubbard Park Pond) in Meriden, and Katz Pond in Trumbull. It’s fun to watch the action at the  Trout Management Area on the Saugatuck River at Ford Road in Westport, which is designated for fly-fishing year round, catch-and-release off-season. Another possibility is salt-water fishing on the Sound, no license required.
