Music by the Saugatuck
|
For more than three decades, the Levitt Pavilion in Westport has presented a summer season of free entertainment under the stars, with performances every night except Monday from late June to late August. There are one or two ticketed events during the summer season, featuring nationally known acts; this year America will give a pre-season concert on June 21 and Kenny Loggins will appear Aug. 10. The weekly schedule is generally Big Bands/Jazz on Sundays, Potpourri on Tuesdays, Children’s Series on Wednesdays, Classical & Cabaret on Thursday, Party Bands on Friday and Blues/Folk/Rock on Saturday. The grounds open 90 minutes before performances for picnicking; except for ticketed events, there is lawn seating. People may bring food or buy snacks at the concession. Concert-goers are reminded to bring bug repellent; the Pavilion sits next to the Saugatuck River’s tidal wetlands. The season will go on with a temporary festival stage after the 34-year-old pavilion had to be demolished this spring after being declared unsafe.
