Carriage Barn arts
In New Canaan’s Waveny Park, the Carriage Barn Arts Center is a busy place from fall through spring, with exhibits and programs. This year, the center is marking its 30th anniversary (recently celebrated with a fund-raising party on May 12); it was saved from the wrecking ball by a group of volunteers in 1977. The current exhibit is Spectrum: 2007 Juried Art Exhibition, which runs through May 27. It will be followed in June by an open show, Life Lessons: The Model as Muse, honoring four longtime models. There are no shows during the summer, but the arts center has plans for the Annual Members’ Exhibition from Sept. 9 through Oct. 6; works will include paintings, drawings, sculpture, graphics, and photography. The next show will have a circus theme, opening Oct. 21 and running through Dec. 16, with works by invited artists. Accompanying the show will be a program on the history of the circus and a juggling workshop for kids, as well as family circus art workshops. Gallery hours at Tuesday-Friday, 12-4; weekends, 1-5.
