Tour the Capitol
|
The gold dome of the Connecticut State Capitol gleams in downtown Hartford and captures the eye of those passing by on the interstate. It’s a place where civics lessons come to life and visitors are welcome. The Connecticut League of Women Voters offers free one-hour guided tours of the State Capitol and Legislative Office Building Monday through Friday year round; also Saturdays, April-October. Guides explain the history of the Capitol building, a National Historic Landmark. Visitors may watch proceedings from the public galleries when the House and Senate are in session. The Capitol houses the Hall of Flags, where flags carried into battle by Connecticut soldiers are displayed. The tour also includes the Legislative Office Building, a very modern structure. Weekday tours begin from the LWV Information desk at the west entrance of the Legislative Office Building, on Capitol Avenue near Broad Street. Saturday tours start from the southwest (Capitol Avenue) entrance.
