Rock Cats mark 25 years
|
The New Britain Rock Cats play from April to mid-September in their stadium in Willow Brook Park as the Minnesota Twins’ affiliate in the AA Eastern League. Their returning manager, Riccardo Ingram, is a former major leaguer who’s been with the Twins organization as a coach and manager for the past decade. Although the Rock Cats started out as a Red Sox franchise, they’ve been with the Twins since 1995 and this year the Rock Cats will celebrate their 25th anniversary in New Britain, the oldest continuously operated sports franchise in Connecticut. Among the stars who played for New Britain are Roger Clemens, Jeff Bagwell, Mo Vaughn, David Ortiz, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. Among the prospects this year is pitcher Tristan Crawford, out of Australia. Game times are at 6:35 or 7:05 with Sunday games at 1:35 or 2. The best seats are $12 and general admission is $5 and $4 (children under 4, free with lap seating); there’s a small parking fee. Concessions are also reasonably priced.
