100 Things to Do
Rhinebeck Aerodrome
Jun 29, 2007

A1917 Fokker Triplane and Sopwith Camel skitter around the sky as Sir Percy Goodfellow and the Black Baron of Rhinebeck duke it out in a dogfight for the hand of Trudy Truelove during airshows on weekends beginning June 16. There are more than 40 vintage aircraft from 1909 to 1935 to see at the museum, which was founded more  by an aviation enthusiast, Cole Palen. It’s in its 48th year as a nonprofit operation. Pilots are in leather jackets and silk scarves and 1920’s music plays over the loudspeaker during shows. There is a snack stand or picnic tables available if you bring your own. The museum’s four buildings and grounds are open daily from 10 to 5 from mid-May through October. Rides in an early biplane are offered weekends ($50/person, 15 minutes) starting at 10 and air shows run from 2 to 4 on weekends. Air show admission is $20 adults, $15 teens and seniors, and $5 children. To visit the museum and grounds, Monday to Friday, it’s $10, $8 and $5.
