How big is Greenwich?
Greenwich encompasses about 48 square miles in the southwestern tip of Connecticut. It is bordered on the east by Stamford; on the north by Armonk and North Castle, N.Y,; on the west by Purchase, Rye Brook, and Port Chester, N.Y; and on the south by the Long Island Sound. Greenwich enjoys 31 miles of coastline.
There are five Zip codes: Riverside 06878; Old Greenwich 06870; Cos Cob 06807; Greenwich 06830; and 06831, which covers the northern areas of Greenwich including Glenville and Round Hill. The telephone area code is 203.

How many people live here?
The CERC Town Profile for 2006 reported Greenwich’s population in 2005 at 62,884. There were 30,071 males and 32,813 females.

What is the town’s racial makeup?
The 2005 data shows the racial breakdown as follows: White, 55,043; Black, 1,395; Asian Pacific, 4,072; Native American, 83; Other/Multi-Race, 2,291; and Hispanic (any race), 4,522.

How many households are here?
According to the 2005 data, there are 23,569 households in Greenwich.

What is the median income?
The median household income is $112,041, significantly higher than the county median household income of $72,573 and the state of $59,761.

What’s the unemployment rate?
According to the Connecticut Department of Labor, in January 2007, Greenwich’s labor force totaled 29,993. Of that number, 29,092 were employed and 901 were unemployed, for an unemployment rate of 3%, well below the state average of 5%.

What is the average price of a house here?
 There were 727 single-family homes sold in 2006, compared to 865 in 2005. Although sales were down 16%, average prices were up by 8% from $2.47 million in 2005 to $2.66 million in 2006. The total dollar amount of all homes sold was $1.93 billion, down 9% from $2.13 billion the previous year.
In 2006, the greatest number of sales — 229 —occurred in the price range of $1 million to $1.99 million. There was one sale under $499,000 and 12 sales of $10 million or more.
As for condominiums, 227 units were sold in 2006, down from 279 in 2005, a decline of 19%. The average sale price increased 16% , however, from $812,169 in 2005 to $944,078 in 2006.
As for the number of properties on the market, as of April 6, 2007, there were 791 total listings (single-family, multi-family, and condo) in Greenwich, up 14% from the same week the previous year when there were 695 total listings.  The greatest concentration of homes — 198 — is in the $2 million to $5 million price range.

January tends to be the coldest month with an average high and low of 36 degrees F/21 degrees F. July tends to be the warmest month with an average high of 83 degrees F and an average low of 65 degrees F.
