You’ll find a little of everything on the menu at Bluu Café and Ultra Lounge depending on what time of day you stop by.
Owners are Mike Roviello, Al Cadcamo and Andrew Berman, who had never owned a restaurant, but have been in the entertainment business and knew what they wanted when they decided to develop the concept.
It took three years of research, with trips across the country, to get recipes for the best hamburgers, thin-crust pizzas and sushi before Bluu opened on last August. Mike Galgano, a CIA graduate, and formerly with Upstream in Ridgefield, is chef, with a line of sushi chefs. General manager of Bluu is Barbara Martin, and manager is Bobbie Chapman.
The spacious café has two bars in addition to a full sushi bar, features 13 pizzas (including lemon) and a selection of 19 half-pound hamburgers (including fresh lobster), and on occasion, some entrees.
At 10:30 p.m., the scene changes, some tables and chairs are removed, and Bluu becomes a dance club with a DJ and colored lights. Thursday is Ladies Night with drinks half price and special promotions offered.
The Bluu appetizer menu offers chicken satay served with a roasted peanut sauce; pear pizza with caramelized onions, gorgonzola cheese and walnuts, drizzled with rosemary-infused honey; vegetable potstickers, fried and served with duck sauce; and Key West crab cakes.
Popular salads are Bluu Apple, mesclun greens tossed with diced apples, crumbled blue cheese, glazed walnuts and banana vinaigrette; udon noodle, Japanese flat noodles tossed with Romaine lettuce, carrots, red onions, celery and pineapple with a fresh cilantro vinaigrette topped with roasted cashews; and Farmers Market Salad, wood-fired roasted vegetables over baby greens with a roasted garlic-mustard vinaigrette.
In addition to a classic hamburger, there are Cajun, California, Cuban, Brazillian, mushroom, surf and turf, turkey, tuna, salmon burgers and more. My choice was a half pound avocado burger, topped with Swiss cheese with lettuce, tomato and balsamic dressing accompanied by purple Peruvian fries, and both were delicious.
The most unusual dessert on the menu is Oreo Delight, Oreos deep fried in a light batter and served with chocolate, caramel sauce and whipped cream. Other choices are key lime pie made with real key lime juice; cinnamon, powdered sugar and honey over deep fried pizza dough topped with ice cream; chocolate lava cake; tiramisu; and housemade cheesecake. If you’re at Bluu late night, you can dance the calories away.
