In a review that includes music, comedy, and nostalgic narrative, acclaimed Groucho impersonator, Frank Ferrante, who has been described as “the greatest living interpreter of Groucho Marx’s material,” will reprise his New York- and London-acclaimed role in the rags-to-riches story of the man many regard as “America’s most gifted funny man.” The fund-raising benefit for The Schoolhouse Theater in Croton Falls, N.Y., will take place at 8 p.m. on April 18. The event includes wine, hors d’oeuvres, and the performance. Tickets are $125 and are tax-deductible.
For his off-Broadway performance, Mr. Ferrante won New York’s Theater World Award and was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award. He reprised the role in London and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for ‘Comedy Performance of the Year.’ In reviews, Variety Magazine said Mr. Ferrante’s Groucho was a “tour de force,” Newsday called him “a marvelous Groucho.” Gene Shalit of The Today Show said he was “brilliant” and USA Today, said he was “eerily good.”
Acclaimed by the New York Times as “Westchester’s sole claim to consistent, professional theater,” The Schoolhouse Theater is a regional, equity theater, dedicated to presenting professional equity theatrical performances by award-winning American playwrights. This season, in addition to classics including “The Crucible” and “Lost in Yonkers,” the Schoolhouse debuted the critically acclaimed “Locked and Loaded,” and reprised “Appointment with a High Wire Lady.”
The Schoolhouse Theater is at 3 Owens Road, Croton Falls, NY. For information and reservations, call 914-277-8477. Visit the Schoolhouse on the web at schoolhousetheater.org.
