Tschebull rug collection will be auctioned off
|
After 25 years of running their gallery, Mike and Inge Tschebull of Tschebull Antique Carpets will sell their entire inventory at an auction in Dedham, Mass., on Monday, May 5.
Grogan and Company will disperse the inventory of the retail store, which consists of approximately 200 antique and modern rugs and carpets. The antique rugs are woven with natural dyes and well-sorted hand-spun yarn.
The sale will include fine room-size carpets and runners to small area rugs, with presale estimates ranging from $500 to $15,000. Highlights include a fine 19th century Serapi carpet, a Mahal Sarouk carpet, circa 1910, a Heriz carpet and a small colorful 19th century Karapinar rug from Turkey.
Tschebull Antique Carpets was founded in 1982 by the husband and wife team. Mike authored the seminal “Kazak: Carpets of the Caucasus” in 1971, and continues to write, research and lecture in the field of old rugs and carpets.
The auction exhibition is open to the public and will begin Friday, May 2. The public is invited to attend a gallery tour and reception with Mike and Michael Grogan on Sunday, May 4, from 4 to 6. Both experts will conduct group tours around the gallery to describe some of the highlight rugs and to answer questions.
The gallery is located at 22 Harris St., Dedham, Mass. A fully illustrated online catalogue is available at groganco.com. For more information, contact the gallery at 781-461-9500.
