Adele M. Anderson, 98, Long-time Darienite, nurse during World War II

Adele M. Anderson, a long-time Darien resident who was a volunteer nurse during World War II, died Sunday, April 27, at Stamford Hospital. She was 98.
Born in Ansonia on Jan. 13, 1910, she was the oldest child of the late Peter V. and Mary Kacergis Domikis.
Mrs. Anderson graduated as a registered nurse from Griffin Hospital in Derby. While working in New Haven, she met and married her late husband, Arthur Victor Anderson, and moved to New York City. Later, moving to Darien, the couple built their house in 1941 and lived there ever since.
Mrs. Anderson was a volunteer nurse during World War II at St. Joseph’s Hospital (now Tulley Health Center) in Stamford, and a long-time member of the Union Memorial Church in Stamford. Over the years, she actively participated in the Women’s Guild, which was instrumental in numerous events and charitable causes.
Mrs. Anderson and her husband were members of the Woodway Country Club of Darien for 54 years, where they enjoyed playing golf and bowling with friends. Many years later, she enjoyed the companionship of Sunday brunches with a close group of women.
Mrs. Anderson will be remembered as a “very special lady who was always smiling, optimistic and interested in the people around her,” said her family and friends. “She was loved tremendously and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellin Anderson Lewis and son-in-law Ronald B. Lewis of Cutchogue, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; a daughter, Ardelle L. Davis; and son-in-law Robert G. Davis.
A public memorial service will be held at 2 on Sunday, May 18, at Union Memorial Church, 58 Church St., Stamford, with the Rev. Dr. Blaine Edele officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to a charity of their choice.
