James A. Walker, 66, long-time Darienite, World War II vet
James A. Walker, a long-time Darien resident who served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, died Thursday, May 8. He was 86.

The son of the late Annot English Walker and Gilbert Walker, Mr. Walker grew up in Darien and attended Darien schools from the old Holmes School through Darien High School Class of 1940.

Mr. Walker attended Northeastern University and was a member of Nu Epsilon Zeta fraternity. He was employed at the General Electric laboratories. During World War II, he joined the Army Air Corp Reserve, serving with the 12th Air Force in North Africa and Italy. After his military service, he re-entered college and graduated from the University of Bridgeport. He was employed at Pitney Bowes in Stamford as an engineer, retiring after 35 years.

Mr. Walker inherited a love of boats and did considerable coastal and inland cruising. He built a number of small boats and boat models. He was a member of Stamford Power Squadron for more than 40 years and also belonged to the National Maritime Historical Society.

He will be missed by his friends, both locally and around the country, his family said.

The Rev. Paul Carling will conduct a service at 1 on Wednesday, May 14, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church chapel, 1864 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
