Three former DHS track and field standouts, Iona’s Chase Pizzonia (DHS Class of 2004), Southern’s Ryan Whitehead (DHS ’06) and James Wyper (DHS ’07) of Yale, all competed against each other at the Yale Springtime Invitational recently, with all three participating in their respective conference championship meets as well.
Pizzonia placed third in the 10,000 in 30:50.81 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. He will compete next weekend at the prestigious ICAAAA track and field championships.
Whitehead captured first in the pole vault at the Northeast Conference Championships with a leap of 15-6.25. And Wyper was 24th in 4:08.73 in the 1500 at the Yale Springtime Invitational.
While at DHS the three athletes completed impressive resumes under coach Kaczmarek, as together they combine to account for nine school records and have earned a total of 10 all-state selections.
